Community Health Centers are federally designated entities that provide comprehensive primary care services regardless of ability to pay.  CHCs also provide access to dental and mental health services. CHCs have been around for over 40 years.  In fact, the second oldest health center is here in Colorado – Denver Health Family Health Center.

CHCs are nonprofit or public health care providers with a mission to provide comprehensive primary health care to low income working families. Colorado’s CHCs provided more than 1.59 million visits, including medical, dental, and mental health, to nearly 400,000 patients in 2006. More than 167,000 Colorado children received primary health care from CHCs in 2006.

14 CHCs operate over 118 clinic sites in 34 Colorado counties. 12 CHCs operate 34 dental clinic sites in 21 Colorado counties and provided over 143,000 visits to more than 64,000 patients in 2006.
