Collectively Cutting Costs For Underserved Patients
CCHN GPO Annual Report: 2007

On behalf of members, CCHN maintains three group purchasing arrangements to allow members to collectively negotiate and purchase certain goods and services at deeply discounted rates.  The savings achieved by these group purchasing arrangements help members lower the cost of caring for the underserved.  This document highlights CCHN’s three group purchasing organizations (GPOs), the savings achieved by members, and GPO fees received by CCHN in 2007.

Laboratory Services GPO: Community Health Centers, CCHN, and the Laboratory Corporation of America (LabCorp) have a GPO agreement whereby members purchase reference laboratory services discounted at an average of 63% off of LabCorp’s published fee schedule.  From Oct. ‘06 to Sept. ‘07, members collectively saved more than $5,200,000 in reference lab costs.  Ten Colorado CHCs currently participate in the lab GPO.  Two CHCs from Wyoming and one non-CHC from Colorado also participate in the lab GPO.  If more members join the GPO in 2008, the discount could rise to 73% off of LabCorp’s published fee schedule.  For more information on how your CHC can join the lab GPO, contact Max Salazar at (303) 861-5165, ext. 262, or max@cchn.org.

Dental Supplies GPO: Community Health Centers, CCHN, Colorado Oral Health Network (COHN) members, and Henry Schein have a Group Purchasing Organization (GPO) agreement whereby members purchase dental merchandise and equipment discounted up to 21% off the customary price.  From October 2006 to September 2007, members collectively saved over $206,711 on equipment costs.  Twenty-seven non-profit dental clinic sites currently participate in the dental GPO.  If more members joined the GPO, all participants could get additional discounts on their collective purchases.  For more information on how your organization can join the dental GPO, contact Max Salazar at (303) 861-5165, ext. 262, or max@cchn.org.

Pharmaceuticals GPO:  Through a joint relationship between the Texas Association of Community Health Centers (TACHC) and CCHN, Community Health Centers are able to purchase pharmaceuticals from Cardinal Health at prices lower than 340B drug prices.  Two CHCs currently participate in the pharmaceutical GPO.  For more information on how your CHC can join the pharmaceutical GPO, contact Max Salazar at (303) 861-5165, ext. 262, or max@cchn.org.
